November 2017 Celebrations

Suzanna Barry - Saturday, October 28, 2017

We had a fantastic October, with the completion of the Opening Doors Project, winning the GMCU Allianz Campaspe Business Awards and our AGM. November is set to be just as busy with a few key events:

National Recycling Week: Nov 13 – 19

We are celebrating with week- long specials at the Murray River Tea Rooms and our Number 4 Op Shop. To launch the week on Monday November 13, we have a 50% off sale at both shops, on all Op Shop items. Daily specials will be announced on social media each evening. CLRS collects around 1 tonne of product locally each week through the Recyclability Kerbside Collection. This is diverting items from landfill and promoting re-use and recycling. Now that’s an achievement to celebrate!

Community & Philanthropy Partnerships Week (#CPPWeek): Nov 20 – 26

We’re celebrating the wonderful partnerships that sustain the Murray River Tea Rooms, by rewarding all our Tea Rooms customers with a Complimentary Cup Cake week. Call in any or every day this week and receive a free Cup Cake with your purchase. We are also launching a video that highlights what can be achieved when community works together. A big thank you to everyone who donates to the Recyclability Kerbside Collection, to our volunteers, customers, staff and corporate sponsors. Your support is providing life changing opportunities for people with disability in our community. Please call in and enjoy a complimentary cup cake!

Johnno’s Run End of Year BBQ – Monday Nov 27, 5.30 pm – 7 pm at the entrance to Scenic Drive Echuca.

Come along for a walk, run or for a BBQ dinner to celebrate all that has been achieved this year. Celebrate the friendships, the fitness, the accomplishments and the personal satisfaction of helping to build the Opening Doors Project. Gold coin donation – please RSVP to for catering purposes. Thank-you to the Echuca Lions who will be cooking the BBQ.

If you didn’t participate in Johnno’s Run this year, but are interested in finding out more, please come along. Everyone is welcome.

I look forward to catching up with you during November!

Kind regards

Suzanna Barry

September News

Suzanna Barry - Saturday, September 03, 2016

Spring has sprung!  It's been a long cold winter, so let’s hope that this means success for our farming community.

We are pleased to announce that Andrew Cowin has been appointed to a vacancy on the CLRS Board.  Andrew has shown strong support and commitment to our organisation, and we look forward to him making a valued contribution to the governance of CLRS.  As part of Andrew's induction he visited some of our sites, including Recyclability.  Pictured below is Andrew with Recyclability volunteer Kim Boland.  Kim was telling Andrew that she enjoys volunteering at Number 4, and has been helping 3 days a week for the past twelve months.  During this time Kim has become very confident meeting new people, serving customers and undertaking a whole range of administrative duties.

This week we applied for the Volunteering Victoria 2016 Awards in two categories - Innovation and Inclusion.  We could have applied in all the categories, as Recyclability is a social enterprise that provides so many opportunities for volunteering.  We have volunteers from as young as 7 years and our oldest volunteer is 87 years.  Volunteers come from all walks of life, including school students, retirees, people with disability, job seekers and corporate volunteers.  The ANZ staff team in Echuca have registered to become CLRS volunteers and will be volunteering during work time at Recyclability.

We have received very generous donations in the last month for our Opening Doors Project.  Thank you to Moama Community Village Lions Committee who donated $5,000 and the Moama RSL who donated $15,000.  We hope to have the tender documents completed in the very near future for the Opening Doors Project - a home and 2 units for people with disability.  We are very much looking forward to this project coming to fruition.

On another note, check out of facebook page to see the video of some of our youngest supporters!  We captured some great insights from some of the young children who were part of the Johnno’s Run team.

August Newsletter 2016

Suzanna Barry - Sunday, August 07, 2016

It's August already!  That means, just one month of winter to go.  We have been fortunate that the wet and cold weather hasn't impacted too much on our programs and events.  The recent Club Teen holiday program was planned to keep everyone warm - with a highlight being toasting marshmallows and campfires.

We were also fortunate that Melbourne put on a sunny, albeit cool, day for Run Melbourne late July. This event was enjoyed by 127 participants and their families and friends.  An amazing $80,000 has been raised for our Opening Doors Project.  Thanks to the Opening Doors Ambassadors for their role in promoting Johnno's Run and the Opening Doors Project. Brady Threlfall and Brett Sands excelled in their Johnno's Run leadership roles, encouraging each participant with their training goals and not only personally raising significant funds, but helping others with various other events and activities. Johnno's Run 2016 was a fantastic event, embraced and supported by our generous community.

We hope you enjoy reading our June newsletter.  We are thrilled to announce that yesterday our Recyclability Team were recognised as the Business category winner in the Shire of Campaspe WICKED awards for recycling!  This is a great achievement for all involved.  The Recyclability Team has already saved more than 22 Tonnes of clothing and other items from landfill since starting the kerbside collection program in July 2015.

In other news the Johnno’s Run Team is off and running!  Now with 117 people registered for Run Melbourne on July 24, so far more than $17,000 has been raised for our Opening Doors Project.  This is a great achievement for the Opening Doors Ambassadors, all who have registered and the community who have got behind the challenge!  We have quite a number of families registered.
