March CEO news and staff update

Suzanna Barry - Sunday, March 05, 2017

We’ve had a very busy and productive start to the year.  A number of our clients have been contacted by the National Disability Insurance Agency for “early entry” to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), and are having their NDIS plans prepared.  Leah McNulty and CLRS team leaders are meeting with each family and client to help provide information to assist with this process.

We have some staff changes effective from the end of February.  We are pleased to announce that Rod Cairns has commenced with CLRS as a Services and IT Manager.  This appointment will enable Leah to focus more fully on the NDIS transition and in particular supporting clients and families.  In addition to growing our internal IT expertise, Rod will oversee Community Activities and Recyclability, with Sandra Carey busy establishing the Murray River Tea Rooms and managing the day to day operations of the Op Shop at 4 Percy Street. Ian Johnston supervises Recyclability collections and daily operations, and Wendy Kellett is responsible for the other various Community Activities offered.  Dean Seeary now has overall responsibility for our Children’s Services programs, and continues as the Project Manager for the Opening Doors Project.

Thank you to the Echuca Moama community and beyond for your support last week of our major fundraising event for the year – our 11th Annual Dinner.  The Moama Bowling Club was our Event Sponsor, enabling us to invite Peter FitzSimons as our guest speaker.  Peter, an excellent story teller, captivated the audience and tied his presentation nicely back to the amazing community that we live in.  We are pleased to announce that over $78,000 was raised for the Opening Doors Project.  Thanks to our Major and General Sponsors, local businesses who booked a Corporate table, businesses and individuals who donated prizes for the raffles and auctions and to the many people who supported this event and helped to achieve this excellent outcome.

We are launching Johnno’s Run 2017 tomorrow evening (Monday 6th March) with a BBQ at Scenic Drive Echuca at 5.30pm (gold coin donation appreciated).  This is a community event, and an opportunity to find out more about the various ways to be involved in Johnno’s Run.  This will be the fourth year that we have had a team in Run Melbourne, and we are aiming that this event will complete the fundraising for the building costs of the Opening Doors Project.  We have around $51,000 left to raise.  You are very welcome to attend the BBQ launch – please RSVP to or phone 5480 2388.

Thanks again for your support and I look forward to being in touch again soon!
