
Community Living & Respite Services Inc. was established in 1979 through community interest in a specific area – Respite Accommodation for families with children with an intellectual disability.
1979 Committee of Management formed
under the name of: “Echuca & District Association for
Residential Care of the Mentally Retarded”.
1980 James Alexander House opened. Community
Residential Unit, 242 High St, Echuca.
1986 Management of new CRU in Rochester, “Campaspe House”.
1987 Change of name to: “Residential Association for Disabled Echuca Region Inc.”
1987 Registration under the IDPS Act 1986 as Residential Service.
1991 Minor St., Echuca a Community Residential Unit for 4 adults as a permanent home, opened.
1992 Name changed to: “Accommodation
for Disabled Echuca Inc.”
1992 Establishment of “Outreach Program” for children
and adults with services being offered in Community
settings.
1992 Department of Community Services Victoria take over management of all State funded CRU’s including James Alexander House, Echuca and Campaspe House, Rochester.
1996 Office established at 188 Annesley St, Echuca.
1997 Establishment of Facility-Based Respite for people with broad range of disabilities.
1997 Name change to: “Community Living & Respite Services Inc.”
1997 Respite Facility moved to James Alexander House, 242 High St, Echuca, the original service site established in 1980.
1999 Appointed In Home Accommodation Support (IHAS) provider
1999 Registered provider for TAC & Workcover.
2000 Registered provider for Post Acute Care and HACC Emergency Response
2000 Establishment of a supported accommodation home in Echuca for 2 adults
2001 Registered provider for Veterans’ Home Care
2001 Appointed Home First Provider
2001 Home Established under Home First Packages for 3 adults in Echuca
2001 - 2002 Temporary supported accommodation program established in Moama, funded by NSW Department of Aging and Home Care.
2003 Case Management Services Offered
2005 Child Protection home established
2005 Waratah House opened – Moama
2006 Accreditation granted under the Children’s & Young Person’s Act
2007 Funding provided by FACSIA – Respite for Older Carers Program – Bowen House Established
2008 Funding provided by FACSIA – Out of School Hours Care for teenagers with disabilities.
2008 -2009 Respite provide in rented properties while the Respite House being rebuilt.
2009 Respite House – 242 High Street –Alexander House-Rebuilt by the Department of Human Services
2009 Organisation Restructure-appointment of CEO
2010 CLRS Administration Office relocated to 26A Percy St Echuca
2010 3 Year Registration granted under the children Youth & Families Act (2005)
2010 Club Teen Accreditated with the National Childcare Accrediation Council
2010 Mitchell Place Opened-Respite for Older carers accommodation. Built by Department of Human Services.
2010 Purchase of Victoria Place Echuca
2010 CLRS 1st Greek Fundraising Luncheon Melbourne
2011 Purchase of land in Minor Street Echuca for
a future development
2011 Appointment of Patrons: Mr Noel Maughan and
Mr John Kennedy
